Beliggenhed:
The estate is located on the upper edge of Pfuß, a small hamlet of Kaltern, somewhat hidden between houses. The "Gschlössl" - as it is popularly called - is located at the foot of the Mendel at 544 meters above sea level. Until 100 years ago, it stood alone, situated between a small stream - the Pfußer Lahn - and the group of houses around the St. Rochus Church. The Mühlburg estate, along with the Campan estate, is recorded as a noble possession in the Atlas Tyrolensis - the first map of the province of Tyrol based on a geodetic survey and one of the most important international cartographic achievements of the 18th century.

The estate was first mentioned in 1231; the residential tower was originally known as "Turm in Pfuß" (popularly known as "Pfußer Gschlössl" or "Schlössl" for short). It was the lords of Morenberg who had the estate rebuilt into a manorial residence called Mühlburg and who also lived there. The Morenbergs came from Sarnonico on Nonsberg and were originally called de Moris. In 1510 Emperor Maximilian I of Habsburg granted them the noble title of von Morenberg. Around 1600 they owned the Morenberg estate in Sarnonico, the entire area of the Mendel Pass including the inn, the Windegg agricultural estate and the Mühlburg estate in Kaltern. In 1584 the "Tower in Pfuß" was rebuilt by the Italian architect and master builder Silvestro del Gallo, who was active in Kaltern, together with the stonemason Bernardo Pariano for Johann Anton von Morenberg into its present form as a manorial residence. After the death of the eldest son Friedrich and thus the extinction of the noble family of Morenberg, the building passed in 1628 to his widow Maria Brigitta von Arz, who soon married the baron Karl Colonna von Völs.

In 1664, the small estate passed to the Barons Käßler von Boymont, who also used the buildings as their residence after Boymont Castle burned down. The last noble owner was Karolina, née Countess von Wolkenstein, who sold the estate to a certain Jakob Wally in 1801. Thus, after 200 years, the "aristocratic" time of the "Schlössl" in Pfuß came to an end. From then on, the estate was owned by the middle classes and farmers, which it still is today. According to oral tradition, the estate was used by the imperial hunters of the imperial and royal monarchy during the First World War. In the era of fascism under Mussolini, it was used as an illegal catacomb school to ensure the instruction of students in their native German, despite the ban.
